Skip Intro presents: Alois Huber on underground research

The underground university team that is Skip Intro plans to serve the dolce in a week's menu of intellectually stimulating brain food with an appearance of Alois Huber on "The archaeology of underground research 'in between' sound and social space".

Alois Huber is labelled the godfather of electronic and experimental music in Austria. As social worker, winemaker, teacher and club owner Huber roams the most diverse cultural scenes and spheres, ranging from the high-brow Secession in Vienna to an underground club in the vineyards around the small town of Krems. His record label Laton serves as a platform for emerging artists in electronic and experimental music and is also hosting some impressive heavy weights of the quite nerdy scene of analog synthesizer tunes. Sophisticated craftsmanship in modifying end developing instruments is a crucial aspect to this fragment of the music world.

It is therefore not surprising that many of the devices used are prototypes. Producing the sound itself as much as building its apparatuses is an experimental pioneering process in the field of listening and manufacturing electronic technology. Huber is not only one of the driving forces behind this scene in Austria, he is also an alert observer of technological and social change. From this perspective he will report on subcultures, technology and the tactics of underground research.
